Ethyltriphenylphosphonium Bromide (ETPB) is a quaternary phosphonium salt, structurally similar to quaternary ammonium salts but with stronger polarization due to the larger phosphorus atom. ETPB is widely used as a precursor of phosphonium ylides in the Wittig reaction for the synthesis of fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and liquid crystal monomers. It also serves as a curing accelerator in polymerization processes such as powder coatings and epoxy resins, and acts as a phase transfer catalyst in organic synthesis.
