Liquid caustic soda is a colorless and transparent strongly alkaline liquid. Industrial-grade products may contain impurities such as sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃). It is highly caustic, with strong irritant and corrosive effects on skin, eyes, and mucous membranes, and is reactive with many materials.
