Povidone-iodine (PVP-I), also known as excellent-iodine and povidone-iodine, is an antiseptic for skin disinfection before and after surgery. Povidone-iodine is a yellow-brown to reddish-brown amorphous powder, soluble in water or ethanol, insoluble in ether or chloroform.Its solution is a kind of iodophor.
